About Me

I'm a follower of Jesus, a husband to Regan, a father to Carter, a son to John and Cathy, a brother to Josh and Rashele, a friend to many, and a pastor and preacher in and to the church.  I like to ask questions, embrace tradition, create and design, love people, teach, rest, travel, learn, and sit down with friends and a nice cup of coffee or tea.  Our family recently returned from a year of service at European Nazarene College in Büsingen, Germany.  More details about our year of ministry can be found at our family website here.  After a time of transition in Olathe, KS, our family is currently living in Portland, OR where we are in the process of starting a new ministry to this city through Portland First Church of the Nazarene.

Ministry Passions

  • Planning and leading creative, God-focused, participatory worship that is centered in word and sacrament.  I believe that dynamic corporate worship that is shaped by biblical and historical patterns yet informed by the emerging cultural context is central to the church’s self-understanding as a people called to engage in God’s mission in the world.  Worship leads to mission!
  • An intentional, holistic approach to spiritual formation that results in the transformation of our whole being into the likeness of Christ (holiness of heart and life) with special attention to the role of the classical spiritual disciplines and the life-shaping power of small groups.·
  • The power of hospitality, service, and authentic relationships as a primary means of sharing the Good News.
  • A commitment to issues of mercy and justice and a desire to continually learn how we may be faithful to the Gospel in the 21st century.
  • A commitment to developing leaders within the congregation, especially among children and youth.
